Chaos in Nevada Courtroom as Defendant Attacks Judge During Sentencing
A courtroom in Nevada descended into chaos as a defendant, Deobra Delone Redden, attacked a judge during his sentencing in a felony battery case.
The incident occurred at the Las Vegas Regional Justice Centre when Redden dived over the bench as he was about to be sentenced to jail.
According to report, Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus was pushed back against a wall, sustaining injuries but not requiring hospitalization.
A courtroom marshal who came to the judge’s aid suffered a bleeding gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder, leading to hospitalization, further report says.
As seen in the video, Redden, 30, was subdued by several court and jail officers and courtroom staff members, with some seen throwing punches in the process.
The defendant now faces additional felony charges, including battery on a protected person, relating to the judge and court officers.
The abrupt and violent nature of the incident left those present stunned, with the chief county district attorney describing the event as happening so fast that it was challenging to know what to do.
