Doctors Suspend Surgery As 14 Babies Die At UPTH Due To Power Outage
At least fourteen babies have died at the University Of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH due to power outage on Wednesday, June, 29.
The babies died in the hospital’s incubator due to lack of power supply. Other surgery procedures were also suspended.
According to report, twin babies of a woman who had be looking for the fruit of the womb for seven years were among the deceased babies.
The twin babies were said to have been born prematurely hence they were put into an incubator.
Some patients were also told to go to another hospital due to the power outage.
Some relatives of the patients had to use their phone light to aid doctors and nurses who are taking care of the person they rushed to the Accident and Emergency Ward.
The hospital’s provost, Prof. C. N. Mato, is yet to give comment on the incident.
