A female traffic warden has been crushed to death by a truck while her colleague fell off a van and died while trying to convey the corpse to the hospital in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital, HGS Media Plus gathered.
The incident was said to have happened on Wednesday, December 22 around 5pm at Wapi junction by Mobil filling station, along Mohammed Highway.
According to reports, the traffic warden identified as Obasse who is said to be a mother of triplets was crushed to death on her duty post when a truck with registration number NEPZA CR 576 FTZ loaded with scrapped metals lost control.
Subsequently, one of her colleagues was conveying her corpse to the hospital when he fell off from the back of a van which was conveying the corpse and hit his head on the road and died instantly.
The truck is said to be owned by a company inside the Calabar Free Trade Zone.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the State Police Command, Irene Ugbe, said the incident was unfortunate and a huge loss to the Command. She said that the driver of the haulage truck was at large but the truck has been impounded and the company contacted.
