On this day in Nigeria history specifically on the 7th of August 2012, at least 19 persons were killed in a gun attack that occurred inside a popular church, (Deeper Life Bible Church) in Okene in Kogi State.
The attack which apparently may still be fresh in the minds of some Nigerians happened about 9 years ago in otite, an outskirts of Okene.
The attack was carried out by three unknown gunmen who opened fired
on members inside the church during a Bible study session. According to story report, the church’s generator was switched off by one of the suspects, leaving the members in darkness while the other two walked into the church and opened fire on the members.
The 19 people who dead in the attack included the pastor of the church.
The Governor of Kogi as at the time, Idris Wada declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state after the attack. A 24 hours surviillance was also put in place in all churches and mosque in order to avoid further attack.
However, the Nigeria police force and soldiers were deployed in the state the night of the attack in search of the armed suspects.
Consequently, two days after, August 9, the police announced the arrest of three suspects, two men and a woman who were alledge to have been part of the church shooting.
Idris Wada who was the State Governor at the time described the attack as wicked, devilish and ungodly.
